Perth, Aus. Kelby Jennings, a native.

Kelby, Born and bred in Perth, WA.

"In Perth, located on the coast of southwestern (SW) Australia we have a Mediterranean climate, it is never too hot nor too cold. If we go inland we have the desert. As a result the flora of this state has a great variety of plants. The need of the flora to adapt to a variety of climates contributed to create new species of plants."

This is what Kelby, an Environmental Engineer, now 25 years old, explained to me during the interview we had in Perth, November 2011. He works for on environmental / engineering company providing consulting services to a variety of "subjects" needing a floral survey for a given geographical area.

Kelby likes his work because he is out in the open; additionally he is happy to provide a contribution to preserve the environment in the land where he was born.
The preservation of the local eco-system happens naturally if man didn't come in and alter its equilibrium. Since there is a need to use the land for other purposes, such as agriculture, the selection of the area must be done according to criteria which will safeguard the local eco-system.
Kelby explained that if you leave a small wild area untouched, an "island" surround with agricultural land, the original eco-system will no longer be able to sustain itself. Any small natural event or man created interference will disturb the fragile equilibrium, and the original flora and fauna will slowly disappear. This is particularly true in case of fire. The solution for avoiding this situation consists in creating corridors of untouched land connecting the "islands" with each other.

Kelby has one brother and two twin sisters. At the age of 12 he lived for 4 years in England. Later in life he also traveled throughout Europe for a total of eight months, visiting 22 countries. He liked particularly Switzerland, where the environment is protected with great care.
He has a good sense of humor and a positive attitude toward life. He likes people, but from time to time he would like to be a bird to experience the sense of freedom that flying provides. He likes particularly one animal: the Pine Marten.
Kelby, I wish the best for you, and the Australian land.
